Winter vehicle checks

Cold weather creates a fresh set of challenges for drivers. Looking after our vehicles during this time is even more important than ever. Below are some of the checks that we pay extra special attention to when the weather gets a bit chilly.

Vehicle Care Tips:

Check the Battery: Cold weather can drain batteries faster. Getting stranded in winter because your vehicle will not start will make for a bad day! This is covered in our pre-hire checks.

Tire Pressure and Tread Depth: Cold air will reduce tire pressure, so make sure they are correctly inflated. Check your tread depth, there is no more important time than winter for a good tread pattern on tires. This is also part of our pre-hire checks.

Antifreeze Levels: The vehicle must have the right antifreeze/water mix to prevent freezing. The level of coolant is part of our pre-hire checks but the mixture is checked at service intervals and also on the approach to winter.

Windshield and Wipers: Keeping the windshield clear of ice, frost and snow for visibility is vital. This is part of our pre-hire checks.

Driver Care Tips:

Dress Warmly: You should dress in layers to stay warm. You should not rely the vehicles heater to keep you warm. If you break down you will get cold quickly. We do our very best to make sure vehicles do not break down but it could happen to any vehicle so be prepared.

Stay Hydrated and Eat Well: Keeping non-perishable food and water with you at any time of the year is a good idea. You never know when it may come in handy.
